Through her heart-themed series, Chio captures her journey as she navigates the challenges of a break-up after a long-term relationship. Her art serves as a reminder that pain is a necessary part of progress. Like the Japanese art of Kintsugi, which highlights the cracks in an object and transforms them into something beautiful, Chio's art celebrates the imperfections that make us human. Our hearts, fueled by passion and resilience, can overcome even the greatest challenges coming out stronger than ever. There is also a reference to the importance of self-love inspired by the famous Spanish phrase "Te quiero, corazón mio" (I love you, my heart), often used to call someone else ‘your heart’ and express that they have become ‘your heart’. Chio brings the literal meaning of ‘Corazón mio’ back to the centre of the piece. Our heart is ours only and taking care of ourselves is our duty and no one else’s.
